“Laura and Henry Make a Decision” is the story of how I had to decide whether to have my dog’s front limb amputated. My sweet yellow lab, Henry, received a cancer diagnosis and I was faced with how best to treat it. The overarching themes of this story may be recognized by pet owners who are faced with a variety of health decisions. How do we make the best decision for our beloved pets when we can’t communicate with them?
The characters are physical dolls I created in my sewing studio. I added faces digitally after taking pictures of the scene. The sets are physical locations around my home and most are fabric-based.
“Uterus Adventures: Histology Lab Journey” is the story of what happens to a uterus once it’s been surgically removed—from the perspective of the uterus! This is a fun telling of the story for anyone who has wondered what happens after their uterus is removed. This comic is grounded in real, observed processes in a working histology lab in Victoria, BC, Canada.
I created the cover art, shown here, but the story, additional elements, and execution were all a team effort! My talented collaborators, Laura Grisales (Victoria, BC, Canada) and Karen Plata Souza (Toronto, ON, Canada) were incredibly fun to work with!
